Ultrasound, Radiofrequency, Botox, Skin Boosters, and Lasers: What Does Each One Solve?
PIND Dermatology Clinic explains the most commonly asked treatments by the layer they act on: ultrasound and radiofrequency, Botox, skin boosters, and lasers each target different problems, and sagging skin is divided into fat type, laxity type, and mixed type. Identify the problem first, then choose the treatment.
The difference between aesthetic treatments comes down mainly to the layer they act on and the problem they target. At PIND Dermatology Clinic, the questions asked most often in the consultation room are: how ultrasound and radiofrequency differ, whether Botox is only for slimming the face, why skin boosters go by so many names, what each laser is actually treating, and how to choose when the face is sagging. These questions all point to the same thing — first work out what your face's problem actually is, then choose the treatment. Only when the order is right does it work.
How do ultrasound and radiofrequency differ?
Ultrasound delivers focused ultrasound to the 4.5mm fascial layer to lift the contour line; radiofrequency heats the skin so collagen rebuilds on its own, for full-face tightening. The two act in different ways and at different layers — they are not two names for the same thing.
Is Botox only for slimming the face?
No. Injected in different places, Botox addresses completely different problems.
- Into muscle: relaxes the expression muscles, for the forehead, glabella, and crow's feet
- Into the dermis: controls oil and shrinks pores
- Into the underarm: blocks the sweat gland signal
- Into the masseter: slims the face
- Into the calf: straightens the line
Why do skin boosters have so many names?
Because their ingredients and functions are different to begin with, and they cannot be used interchangeably.
- Rejuran black box: repairs the skin barrier
- Re2O: contains human collagen components, builds collagen at the source
- Salmon: post-procedure anti-inflammatory soothing
- Juvederm: long-lasting hydration
Does every laser treat the same thing?
No. Each laser has its own role for a different skin problem.
- Hollywood Toning: sun spots, uneven skin tone
- Cellec V: inflamed acne, red acne scars
- Secret RF: pores, rough skin texture
- CO2 fractional: depressed acne scars
Is there only one kind of sagging?
No. Sagging has to be treated by type, and the clinic first determines which type it is before deciding the order.
- Fat type: treat the fat first with InMode
- Laxity type: use Thermage to shore up collagen
- Mixed type: build the base with radiofrequency first, then lift with ultrasound
The point of typing is the order. With the same few treatments, a different sequence gives a different result.
